8/22/2021 – Get the lead out

One of the first things required outside of the hull and timber kit is to get the lead out for the keel. I managed to find sub $3 a pound lead ingots via Etsy. Prices have gone up due to batteries, ammo shortages, etc – along with lead being bad for the environment. Either way, the order of 125 lbs (56.7kg) showed up in two boxes delivered by the US Postal Service, poor mail guy. I’ll source more lead later for inside ballast but will definitely be on the lookout for deals and not feel rushed to get what was available. Based off of other reports, the keel itself takes 108 lbs and the centerboard takes just over 13.2 lbs which has me covered.
